You're saying alliance being dominant is exactly what all the uninitiated movie-goers will want to see. I never said that the horde should be the ones in the spotlight, I said that the horde should share as much screen time as the alliance. That is the problem with video game movies, they cater to people who aren't fans. Did they change LotR in any way from the novel to impress people who didn't read the books? No, and those movies were and still are a huge success. The film should be made entirely as the story suggests, completely canon. If it is a well made film, if it looks visually impressive and is equally well produced and acted, that is what will bring in people not familiar with the story. You think LotR would have gone over well if it wasn't visually stunning? No, and I sure did see a hell of a lot of orcs in that movie.
Did you not hear the part about "even if every subscriber to WoW bought a ticket it wouldn't be enough". I'm shure if they could make a movie to cater the the fans who care about lore probably half of the player base, the would. But the numbers do not allow it. Lets say you spend 10 million dollars on a movie of which 4.5 million people will understand and want to see at standard ticket prices you make 1/4th of what you spent back.
You can rant about how it should be for "true fans" all you like. The reality is no one is going to make a movie that is not going to bring in a profit and the movie you are talking about would tank.
Also it's a simple fact most of the horde chars are ugly and the female versions are uglier. Now that established which will people want to see more a Night Elf played by Kira Nightly, or a orc played by Kira Nightly.
"...and they will not want to see a ork or undead be on the winning side."
Why should they make the film so that the Alliance look any better, in order to cater to people who aren't familiar with the warcraft lore? If they did that they would dissapoint all the true fans who the movie should be made for in the first place. Sure Alliance supporters would like that but it's not the truth. The truth is that neither side is good and neither side is evil. I'm not saying in my first post that horde are better, i support the horde but I know that is an opinion and facts can't be based on opinions.
haha arnold swartzene.....etc should be in this movie :))))
@zabartuni Horde look bad? have you walked around undercity and talked to some of teh NPC's. Not that the alliance is anything but good by any means, you need to take into account that people who dont play WoW will also be wanting to watch the film if its good enough and they will not want to see a ork or undead be on the winning side. In the end it all comes down to the mind set of the average viewer and what they will want to see.
When he said it would be Alliance based I was sort of dissapointed for obvious reasons, me being a Horde player, but then when he mentioned it will be PvP based that just kind of made it worse. So it's going to be primarily taken from an Alli perspective, but they will only be battling the Horde in the film? That just makes the Horde look bad to anyone not already familiar with the warcraft history, and I've seen enough movies where orcs are bad and humans are good. In the end I hope they actually do decide to give the horde more limelight because to make a unique film they should build positive points for both races to create a more conflicted story.
On a sidenote, if the Night Elves do get any showing in the film, Rodrigo Santoro for Malfurion IMO.
Thrall

Chuck Norris! made me rofl
WANT!
dude, i want it
rated R! and I'm sad the guy didn't answer the cg/rl question :(. I don't believe it'd rl real well, but like he said they're making advances in so many area's. Lastly, I don't think I've ever imagined teldrassil looking like that.
cool, wonder how this would turn out;P
I bet Metzen could kick some ass in a bar fight.
Very good and very informative. I love that fact that it will be Live-action and not CG even though the CG team of Blizzard is great and all, but I think we all have seen that and will continue seeing that in the game series.
