WSVG: WoW 3v3 Tournament Rules

There's now a rules page up on the World Series of Video Games website for their 3v3 Tournament, including the number of teams allowed, the registration fees, prizes, dates, locations, gear, allowed interface addons, and everything else you'll need to know to prepare yourself for the WSVG.

4.0 Tournament Structure

A weighted seeding structure will be used to determine groups. The teams will be initially seeded by Tournament staff based on competitive experience and Armory ranking. Future event seeding will incorporate these factors and WSVG event placement.

Round 1 - Group Play
  • 64 Teams
  • 16 groups, 4 teams per group.
  • Each team plays 3 matches within group.
  • All 5 rounds must be played for seeding purposes.
  • Wins = 1pt, Loss = 0pts
  • Ties will be decided by rounds won versus rounds lost.
  • The top 2 teams from each group advance to the next round.
Round 2 - Group Play
  • 32 Teams
  • 8 Groups, 4 teams per group.
  • Each team plays 3 matches within group.
  • All 5 rounds must be played for seeding purposes.
  • Wins = 1 pt, Loss = 0pts
  • Ties will be decided by rounds won versus rounds lost.
  • The top 2 teams from each group advance to the next round.
Round 3 - Double Elimination Bracket
  • 16 teams
  • 8 Bracket Rounds, double elimination
  • 1 Winner.


4.1 World Series of Video Games Tour points will be awarded to teams based on the final official placement at each event. Points will be utilized for seeding purposes in future events. The top 4 teams from each event will receive travel bonuses to compete at the next Tour Event. Teams that do not confirm their appearance will not receive their travel bonuses. At the end of the final tour event, the teams with the top 8 point totals will be invited to the finals.

4.2 In order to retain Series points, a team must maintain the majority of the original roster as determined by a team�s first participation in a World Series of Video Games tournament.

5.0 Match Preparation

5.1 Players may use personal mouse, keyboard, and headset. Players must inform the WSVG via our forums at least 1 week prior to tournament of which drivers will be needed. Accessing the registry or altering the display output or operation system settings is strictly forbidden.

5.2 After China, in-game configuration and binds can only be altered using the customized, pre-installed WSVG GUI. It will be strictly forbidden for players to access the Add-ons Folder after China. For the China event, however, players should submit the Add-ons they wish to use in the Driver Requests forum on the WSVG website by April 29.

5.3 Players may not use in-game names or team names that show reference to other league organizations. All players are required to use the same Player name all season.

6.0 Tournament Procedure

6.1 Each team will have 5 minutes to pick a pre-made character and equip with gear and talents. There will be multiple selections to choose from for each race and class. Each team must select 3 different character classes. Teams may not use multiple of the same class.

Example 1:
1 Paladin
1 Warrior
1 Mage
This is OK.

Example 2:
2 Paladins
1 Mage
This is NOT OK.

All gear will be made available through the character's backpacks. There will be additional vendors for restocking consumable components

Group Play

Once the 5 minutes for player selection is complete, teams will begin to battle. Each battle round will end when one team is completely eliminated. At the end of each round, players will have a time limit to make appropriate changes and to discuss strategy, as follows:

  • After Round 1: Players will have 2 minutes to strategize, alter talents, and change gear. (No player or character class changes)
  • After Round 2: Players will have 5 minutes to strategize, make player substitutions, change character class, alter talents, and gear.
  • After Round 3: Players will have 2 minutes to strategize, alter talents, and gear. (No player or character class changes)
  • After Round 4: Players will have 5 minutes to strategize, make player substitutions, change character class, alter talents, and gear.

All 5 rounds must be played to completion. This will help to determine seeding for later rounds.


Double Elimination Bracket

Once the 5 minutes for player selection is complete, teams will begin to battle. Each battle round will end when one team is completely eliminated. At the end of each round players will have a time limit to make appropriate changes and to discuss strategy.

Time between rounds will function the same as during Group Play.

The winner of the match will be determined by best of 5 round victories.


Finals

Once the 5 minutes for player selection is complete, teams will begin to battle. Each battle round will end when one team is completely eliminated. At the end of each round, players will have a time limit to make appropriate changes and to discuss strategy.

6.2 At the end of group play teams will be seeded based on group performance.

6.3 Servers will be operated by Blizzard and will be administered onsite by Blizzard employees. Competitors are strictly prohibited from any contact with Blizzard employees, or risk immediate expulsion from the event. Information for server settings utilized for all matches will be provided shortly.

6.4 One player may be substituted with an alternate player after rounds 2 and 4 only. The substitute player may select class and race as desired.

6.5 Should a tournament server or network crash prior to the completion of a round the round will be restarted. Players should inform an admin immediately if a crash occurs.

6.6 Should a client system crash prior to the completion of a round the round will be restarted.

6.7 If players believe an opponent has violated a rule, the battle should continue as normal. At the end of the round, notify an admin immediately of the issue.
