Beta Realm Split TestWhat is a realm split? What will determine whether a realm will need to undergo a realm split? What are the benefits to a realm split? Are any other measures being taken to avoid forcing a realm split? Will I be able to choose my new realm? What happens to my characters if I don’t choose? Is it possible to send my characters to different realms?Does providing my realm preference guarantee my destination? What happens to my Friends and Ignore lists? Will items in the mail or auction house become lost?During the time of a realm split, will the Paid Character Transfer service still be available? Will the transfer of my character(s) from the realm being split count toward the transfer “cooldown,” affecting my ability to transfer elsewhere using the Paid Character Transfer service? What if I don’t like the new realm? Am I stuck there? All players will have the same opportunity that they normally would to transfer the characters they play on an affected realm to a new realm using the Paid Character Transfer service.

If it will reduce my lag (~250ms) I want the splitting!
For anyone who didn't read it fully, here are the two most common problems people are having on the forums, and the solutions.
1.) What if my guild gets split across two servers? If you choose no server (a window pops up allowing you to select or change the realm you're going to a week before the actual event), then you will by default go with your guild leader, thereby making it so your entire guild goes to one server.
2.) But what 'bout free transfers? The server split is an absolute last solution. It basically is forcing the transfer when people refuse to do so themselves, after all other avenues have been offered. It's somewhat in their right.
That is taken directly from the post, if you read it closely rather than just skimming the concept (no offense meant, but panic frenzy never worked well in the 1930s.)
on a realm like ours (which is over max), the alliance outnumbers the horde 3:1. pvp now is quite difficult. if the realm splits, pvp would be gone unless the alliance find out where most of the horde go and also go there (then the split accomplishes nothing).
What happens with guilds? You're gonna end up having your guild split up over 2 servers. :(
ilovemrdoe: The problem is, not all servers that need it are getting free character transfers.
I'd probably end up using the free character transfer before the server splits just to get bearable playing faster
Personally, I think this is a great idea. I know my primary realm, Draenor, has extreme Queues. As long as I can communicate with all my friends to decide on a realm to move to, this seems to be a great idea.
That is so fucking unfair to force ppl move their realm.
