Welcome to another World of Warcraft add-on spotlight! Today we're covering OopsTheyDied, by gropoutoux.
The Addon

OopsTheyDied is a simple add-on that displays a teammate's corpse location on world and battleground maps. It can be quite useful in raids, dungeons and battlegrounds, for these reasons:
- In a PvE setting, OopsTheyDied can help you to not only quickly locate your allies for resurrection, but also review where your raid might be failing so that you may adjust your strategy or instructions accordingly.
- In a PvP setting, this addon shines, helping you to quickly spot when a given base is being under attack or captured, and where your enemies are positioning themselves, greatly improving your team's response capabilities.
Interview
We also had the oportunity to have a chat with the add-on's author, grouptoux:
Why did you decide to create this add-on?
Simply because I'm playing rogue, and as most of them, I'm very shy, especially where there is horde in front of me. In arathi for example, I never try to go to a base where there is lots of people ! So I was looking for a way to get informations about the distribution of the enemy between all bases, that's why I decided to make this addon. When my friends are dying, I see skulls on the map, and so if there is many skulls at the same place, it means that there is many horde members there (and I already told you that I'm very shy) or only one player but a really really good one!
What did you find it most useful for?
Due to the way I play WoW, I find it most useful for BG and RBG to easily switch to the base the least defended. But it can be really helpful in PvE when people die in raid to find their corpse to rez them , you know when you ask "hey where did you die ?" and they answer something like "near the tree, just under the chair where there is two gnomes standing" (yeah people sometimes die in really tricky places).
How was the experience? Did you come across any problems?
The experience was really good, there is lots of ressources online about the lua functions supported by the WoW api. Still I regret the fact that there is no real "wait" or "pause" function but also I can understand that a such function could block the whole WoW process lol ! Concerning the addon, it's not really a problem but it was hard task to add icons in the minimap, but now it's done and I should released it a new version soon!
Yes, adding icons to the minimap is certainly not a trivial task. Any plans for new addons in the future?
Yes, I'm working really hard on another addon, which will let the user know how many ennemies there are in each base with automatic announce in the /bg of the inc. This addon should be released soon.
See it for yourself at OopsTheyDied's page!
Comments
Looks like a useful addon. I usually do this manually by seeing that some players are dying via unit frame, then track them down on the map. This should automate that nicely.
