Welcome to another Minecraft Spotlight! In this week's issue we will be covering WeaponLevels, a plugin developed by _InnoKo_.
WeaponLevels introduces a new levelling system focused on weapons and other items.

The plugin's leveling system is quite similar to the one found in The Elder Scrolls series. Rather than skills, however, the system revolves around individual items, such as weapons, armours and tools. This system is actually quite simple. All that players have to do is use their favourite weapons and tools as always. The more they use those specific items, the more proficient they will become.
Once this plugin is installed on your server, every weapon, tool and piece of armour will get both a level counter and an experience bar; shown below the item's name. To acquire experience for their items, players only have to use them.
When using their favourite weapon for example; it's experience will increase by a set amount each time they hit a mob. And each kill will add an additional amount depending on the strength of the mob.

Of course leveling up items has its advantages, or else there would be no point in creating a plugin like this. Once an item reaches level five, its damage or defense rate will increase. From then on, every additional five levels will do so as well, until hitting the level cap. In addition to improved effectiveness, the item's name will also change colour, in the same way as many (MMO)RPGs. Other than bragging rights, this has no further use.
Unfortunately, the plugin also has its downsides. For instance, repairing your level 20 sword will turn it back into a regular one. Hopefully the creator will solve this limitation in the future.

Installing the plugin on your server is fairly easy. If this is your first time, simply follow these steps and your players will be enjoying this plugin in no time!
- Download the latest version of WeaponLevels from here or here.
- Place the "WeaponLevels.jar" file in the "plugins" folder, located in your server's main directory.
- Start or reload your server.
- Check if the "WeaponLevels" folder has been added to the "plugins" folder successfully.
- Open the configuration files found in the previously mentioned folder to configure the plugin.
- Restart the server to load your new configuration.
- Enjoy your newly installed plugin!

As usual, the plugin can be customised extensively by editing the provided configuration files. For example, levelling up a weapon is quite easy. If this bothers you, simply changing the amount of experience given by each mob will solve this. If desired, the level cap can be altered as well.
Besides experience and level cap, it is also possible to change the level stages of each item type to your liking. These stages trigger the colour transition and damage or defense increase. On top of that, stages can be used to add enchantments to items, giving yet another incentive for players to level up their items.
WeaponLevels is a very promising addition, particularly to role-playing servers. The plugin introduces a new form of character progression inspired by existing role-playing games. By merely using items of their choice, players can improve their effectiveness; increasing damage and defence rates as a result.
Many thanks to _InnoKo_ for creating this plugin!
