About BotZapper

What BotZapper does:

  1. Detects Bots
  2. Prompts user to report bot.
  3. Automatically fills out ticket information

How it works:

It watches nearby players around you. If they're moving too fast too often, then they gain "suspicion" from the addon. Once they reach a certain amount of suspicion it will prompt the player that it think that it found a bot. Before reporting, the addon will show you what evidence it has found against a specific player. You can choose to report, gather more evidence, or ignore the player completely. When a player is reported by BotZapper, it will be ignored again for the rest of the session.

Suspicion is gained by:

  • Moving quicker than the threshold for a certain number of updates
  • Having zero buffs
  • Being lower level than the zone they're in
  • Gathering

Suspicion cannot be gained unless they're detected to be moving too quickly. Having an authenticator greatly lowers their suspicion as this is considered a false positive.

GUI: You can open it with "/bz"

Nearby List: Simply a list of players near you. You are given basic information about what they've been doing in the last 15 seconds you've been tracking them. Reported or Ignored players will not show up on this list.

Watch List: A list of players that you have seen who have generated any amount of suspicion. You're given basic information about what they may have done to generate suspicion. You can click on a unit in this list to generate a report. Reported or Ignored players will not show up on this list.

Report/Ignore List: A list of players that have been reported or ignored. Players on this list are accompanied by a reason as to why they're ignored. Players placed on this list expire in 7 days. Friends, group members, and your local player are automatically added to this list.

I've tested this extensively for false positives, and avoiding them is my main goal. If you're using BotZapper and  you're not 100% sure that it was encountered by a bot, use the "Gather More Info" button and only report them after you're 100% sure. If you think that you found a false positive, you can screen capture the data gathered and upload it to imgur and post it as a comment or as an issue on the github issues page.

any plans to update this for the newest drop?

Great mod, been using to report for a long time now. Got this error today, something to look into. Note I did have the Suspected Bot blinking, though reported the bot through the normal full interface then clicked that icon afterwards when the bot was already reported (maybe related).

Yes the special characters are starting to be used by bots

  • #94

There needs to be a way to report bots that are in pvp matches with this... it doesn't detect slow moving circling players on our own team.  LOL

after a couple of hours, botzapper detected the bot. dunno why it used that long.

  • #91

Botzapper does not register bots with names that contains special characters.

Like the name in this picture:

If you see Bots in BG's, you cant report them with BZ because they are on the ignore-list.
If you see just a Bot, who is farming and dont get cought as a Bot by BZ you cant report him.

these two things are some kind of sad. I tried it by myself to modify the addon but... im not that good in LUA ;)

Maybe you could make an Option to report the actually targeted player? Or move them from "nearby" to "watchlist" (and from there to report them...)

Confirmed, there were just a handful of bots teleporting around in two wurm tunnels I've been in and it hasn't gotten any of them.

All were teleporting around, none were reported. I sent in manual reports.

  • #89

Yeah. I think the issue here is that the bots don't need to warp very fast inbetween each node. They never reach the trigger speed for BotZapper to care about them.

I may add some functionality for reporting players even if they didn't generate any suspicion.

Didn't detect the movement speed of a bot teleporting in Wilderrun

Was forced  to manuall report, movement speed on nearby players was 0 and he was teleporting from node to node or speed hacking really fast.

  • #87

Yeah. I think a handful of bots have found a way to "trick" BotZapper and make their speed seem like it's lower than it actually is. I've been looking into it but I haven't been able to nail it down yet. I think Carbine just did a banwave because I haven't seen any bots on Pergo in the last 2 days.

I'm not quite sure what's up, but this doesn't seem to be working as well anymore. Had a bot fly past me at least 6-7 times that I saw, harvesting nodes. I was watching the window and it only clocked them at ~200m/s, but they were never put on the watched list.  I've encountered them many times in the past half hour, yet nothing on the watched list or any notification.

Is it possible your requirements are too strict? I understand not wanting false positives, but, honestly, multiple (not sure how many) speed infractions in 15s might be too stringent depending on how far BZ can detect them. If it's the standard 300ish meter radius, then it's unlikely that it'll detect them enough times since there are rarely enough nodes if they're only focusing on one type.

All of what I just said is based on my (probably flawed) understanding of how the game and this addon work. I love this addon, it's a great tool, just want to help it work even better.

Thanks for the input. I'll try to replicate your results.

What are considered to be fast speeds?
